​Montreal hansom cab stand with a picturesque view of Christ Church Cathedral in the distance, the reverse painted with an attractive portrait of a girl wearing a hat, with ermine scarf and muff. Painted in 1914 while Canadian Impressionist artist and educator Mary Alberta Cleland taught at the Art Association of Montreal (AAM). alongside fellow professors William Brymner and Maurice Cullen.
 
Mary Alberta Cleland was a Canadian Impressionist artist and educator who both studied and taught at the Art Associated of Montreal (AAM) alongside William Brymner and Maurice Cullen. Her students include Edwin Holgate, Nora Collyer, Marion Scott, Anne Savage, Sarah Robertson, Mabel Lockerby, and Kathleen Morris and many other important Canadian Impressionist artists from 1898-1937. Cleland exhibited regularly at The Royal Canadian Academy and the Art Institute of Montreal and is represented in The National Gallery of Canada.
